Our Main Bathroom Reveal!

I am so excited to finally share the reveal of our main bathroom! This project has been over a year in the making, with its fair share of ups, downs, and setbacks that made it feel like it would never end. Instead of dwelling on the challenges we faced along the way, I want to focus on the finished product and share the details behind the design of this space.

First and foremost, I wanted to say thank you to Ferguson Home as we likely wouldn’t have embarked on this journey without their help and encouragement. They graciously sponsored all the plumbing products for this project—and then some! That little nudge was exactly what we needed to finally tackle this remodel we had been putting off for years.

The process was far from simple. Since the main bathroom was the only one in our home with a tub or shower, we had to first create a new bathroom in one of the closets in our bedroom. That may sound unusual, but our home’s closets are quite large. With some creative floor planning, I realized we could reclaim some square footage from the main bathroom to build the new primary bathroom. Once that remodel was complete—you can read about that remodel in this post [here], we were able to demolish the main bathroom and begin its transformation.

We took the space down to the studs and even removed the clawfoot tub to make room for a new tub-shower combo. Initially, I wrestled with the idea of replacing the clawfoot tub, as tub-shower combos often feel less luxurious and carry a certain stigma. However, after moving the shower to the new primary bathroom, it became clear that combining the tub and shower in the main bathroom was the most practical choice. To make this feel anything but ordinary, I worked with Ferguson Home to source a deep, luxurious soaking 60” tub by Victoria + Albert. This high-end tub became the centerpiece of the design.

From there, my Ferguson Home consultant, Hannah, and I selected a shower system from the Kohler Bancroft collection. This included a tub faucet, an overhead multi-function showerhead, and a hand shower. The shower valve trim serves as both a thermostatic and volume control valve, we added a diverter valve that works between the hand shower and the overhead shower. With this setup and the stunning soaking tub, I felt confident about the direction and overall functionality of the space.

The rest of the elements fell into place from there. Although the sink faucet isn’t part of the Kohler Bancroft collection, we found a design from Signature Hardware that perfectly complements the tub filler with its similar spout and refined handles. The smaller scale of the Pendleton faucet felt better suited to our space.

The Kohler Kathryn toilet, one of my favorites, was elevated with a black wooden toilet seat from Jones & Stevens, and a polished nickel trip lever adding a touch of elegance.

The Myers undermount sink by Signature Hardware was chosen not only for its size but also for its bowl shape, which Hannah wisely pointed out is easier to clean—a key consideration for a family-friendly bathroom. Because we don’t plan to stay in this home forever, I wanted to design a space that could accommodate children in the future, and this sink’s easy-to-maintain basin felt like a practical choice. All the plumbing fixtures were specified in polished nickel, a finish I love for its consistency across brands and its ability to age beautifully into a warm, silvery pewter tone.

For the finishing touches, we selected the Santa Monica pocket door hardware by Baldwin in unlacquered brass. While we wanted to preserve the original door, we had to modify it into a pocket door to save space. Finding hardware that not only fit our functional needs but also complemented the original door’s character was a nice relief. The Baldwin hardware adds a touch of timeless elegance, tying in beautifully with the room’s overall design.

Mixing metal finishes was a deliberate choice to create a timeless and layered design. The combination of polished nickel and brass adds depth and character to the room. I established a cohesive approach by using polished nickel for plumbing fixtures and brass for lighting, door hardware, and decorative accents. This formula allowed for a balanced mix of metals that feels intentional while still adding visual interest.

While I had a strong vision for the design of this space, scheduling an in-showroom visit with our local representative at Ferguson Home, Hannah, was incredibly helpful—and, quite frankly, necessary. In the past, I’ve worked directly with staff members at Build.com to develop designs when showroom visits weren’t possible. However, being able to see, touch, and feel every item we selected, and collaborating to pair products from various lines into a cohesive collection for my home, was an experience that simply couldn’t have been replicated without a showroom visit.

In the next blog post I will be sharing all the details about the tiles we selected along with the other elements of the space!

This bathroom is now a functional and beautiful space that fits seamlessly into our home’s aesthetic. I couldn’t be happier with the final result, and I can’t wait to enjoy my first soak in that incredible tub!
