Part 1: We’re Renovating Our Bathroom(s)!

If you follow along on Instagram you may already know that we (Jack and I) are starting another personal project at our home. It’s actually two projects and we have a lot of work cut out for us! This project is going to entail two renovations; yes, plural because we’re renovating two bathrooms! In addition to remodeling our current main bath, we’re also adding another bathroom off our bedroom to create an official primary suite.

People often tell me that we are always are doing a lot and while that’s true, we also have taken a bit of a break from doing any work on our home. The time has come to start on something new and while I know the end result will be totally worth it, it is not going to be a joyful process. When it comes to our home, Jack (my husband) and I typically do a lot of the work ourselves but sometimes when we feel stretched, we’ll reach out to professionals for support. In this project, we are planning to utilize some professional support for aspects of the labor, such as the tile installation, vanity fabrication and of course the stone installation. Jack is taking on the responsibility of the demo, framing, plumbing and the electrical and you guessed it, the millwork! I’ll be handling the project management, design (of course), the wallpaper installation and all the painting.

Drawing of existing conditions of both spaces we’ll be renovating

Above is the CAD drawing on the existing conditions of the main bathroom and the closet, to give you a reference point to the spaces I’m speaking to and how it’s possible to ‘steal’ a shower from the main bath. So, you may be asking why are we putting ourselves through more stress and construction hell? We’re doing it for three main reasons, and here’s why:

1. Adding Value to Our Home

We know that adding a second full or ¾ bathroom (in this case) will add a large amount of value to our home. I’ve mentioned this before, but our current home is not our forever home. As much as we have fun with the interiors and making the space our own, we are still aware of resale value; it is always looming in the back of our minds.

2. A Place to Bathe During The Renovation

Because we only have one full bathroom, demoing and working on it means eliminating somewhere to bathe in the meantime. If we can manage building out a new bathroom before demoing the existing one, be it a little rustic, we will at least have a place to bathe while we finish the main bathroom. At one point I thought we’d just utilize our gym memberships and only remodel the one existing bathroom, however 2020 happened and a worldwide pandemic made going to the gym impossible. And since then, I haven’t signed up for a gym membership and I honestly have no desire to do so ever again. Plus, it just feels like relying on the gym to take showers would be total pain in the butt anyway.

3. Partnership With Ferguson!

The final reason is that Ferguson generously offered to partner with us on a remodel project and I felt like this would be the best time to spend money while we have some financial support. It was clearly an opportunity I could not refuse!

So, here we are, about to start remodeling, renovating one bathroom and adding a second bathroom at the same time!

I can’t wait to share the involvement Ferguson is having with this project and the products we’ve chosen. With the large product selection that Ferguson offers I was able to select plumbing fixtures from multiple collections that both work with the period and style of our home, but also feel different enough that I can tell two distinctly different stories. This will ensure that the bathrooms are both cohesive in aesthetic but also fun and have their own personality.

Before I share all those products I have a lot more information and details to discuss. Therefore, in my next post I’d love to explain the background to my thought process and inspiration for my bathroom designs.

Cheers!
